my GPS clocked me at 13.29 miles - 1:52:42 - 8:28 pace
We woke up at 5am, I had some water and we walked to the Metra at Randolf. It was packed but we made the 6am and got down to the race by about 6:35am. Perfect time. I headed to the port o potty's then lined up in corral G. Right at 7:00 am the horn blew and it took about 3 mins for me to actually cross the start line.
Miles 1 - 4 I felt AWESOME. I was pacing around 820/830. My GPS was a bit ahead of the actual mile markers (.13 about) so that was a bit annoying. The first 3 miles I did have to dodge and run past a lot of people . Not sure if they didn't line up according to their correct corral or what. But just like last year, once we hit LSD it was open road. Corey was on the side with the cowbell a bit after mile 4.
Mile 5-7 Feeling good, picked up the pace a bit at mile 7. Saw my friends husband which was nice.No pains. Not really stopping to get drinks, maybe sips of water. Still keeping my pace around 8:20/8:30
Mile 8 Feeling good, saw my aunt and uncle (congo drum player) at the turn around which was great....then....
Mile 9 - I hit a wall and just wanted to stop, sorta had a panic feeling of I need to just walk off course and not finish. It was strange. I just was ready to see double digits. Chilly breeze and sunny beating down was causing a bit of the chills so I thought OH NO I'M DEHYDRATED - fighting minor right rib cramping
Mile 10 - I'm still getting those chills, take a sip of water. I am thinking I either quit or I keep my pace...I can't go down to a 900 pace...that's failure!
Mile 11 - It took FOREVER to get there but once I saw it I knew I was still pacing sub 9 and I was figuring those chills were due to the windy weather and hot sun beating down - rib cramping again, breath!!!
Mile 12 - ok...I HAVE to finish and I think I might be at my goal A time, but I need a drink of water and DAMMIT I stopped for about 10 seconds to drink a long sip...Where the F is mile 13!
3/4 miles to go - come on!
1/2 mile to go - ok I can finish, I have tooooo! no pain, breathing is great, thighs a little sore but I don't wanna run anymore!
Glorious balloons, I had ripped off my ear buds at mile 11, I couldn't listen anymore, just wanted to hear the fanfare, my breathing....
13.1 - I DID IT....I will never do this again....yeah ok, my next one will be next spring!
1:52:23 - In between goal A and goal B - very excited I beat my time from last year by 15 minutes and last spring by 4 minutes (I can't believe I ran a 1:56 last spring will HUGE HILLS).
I love running....I will never ever stop
